Two killed and one injured in Multi-Vehicle crash in El Centro: Cause under investigation
El Centro, CA - on Wednesday, February 5 at approximately 1:40 PM At least two people are dead following a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Main Street and Fairfield Drive.
According to the press release an adult resident from imperial California was taken into custody and booked into imperial County Jail for their charges.
Surveillance video from a nearby business captured the moment one driver collided with a vehicle making a left turn before striking a second vehicle. Also seen in the surveillance footage is a second vehicle fleeing the scene
According to a press release authority say “Preliminary investigation suggests that two of the involved vehicles were possibly engaged in illegal street racing at the time of the collision.”
Emergency responders arrived on the scene to assess the situation. According to a press release the driver of the second vehicle hit died at the scene, along with the driver who caused the crash. The driver of the first vehicle hit was taken to the hospital, though their condition has not been released.
“The one that is right behind me to my left there was one person to my knowledge in that vehicle. They did not need any type of care or anything like that, so they were released on scene,” said Miller in an interview with KYMA. “We had one driver in the vehicle you can see over my right shoulder here that perished in his vehicle. And then there were three people in the vehicle behind.”
The El Centro Police Department says it is investigating whether street racing played a role in the crash.
